Shaping the future of journalism

For 18 months, the Journalism Value Project has documented the status of public interest media in Europe and talked to their directors and journalists about the challenges of running an independent journalism operation. Now we are looking to the future: Where are public interest media going, and which support do they need – politically and financially – to continue their service to the public?

This is being discussed in a brand-new white-paper, developed by Investigate Europe as part of the JVP project, and launched this Friday, May 11, at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia, Italy.

The white-paper puts the spotlight on the value that these purpose-driven, independent media bring to their communities: They engage with local communities, they educate their users, and they are drivers for ethical decision-making and transparency. But they often meet barriers in the form of technical restrictions and the dire need for financial sustainability.

If you are in Perugia, join us Friday at 18:30 in Spazio Modu. And whether in Perugia or not, you can find the white-paper on this webpage from Friday.
